A 100-YEAR-OLD IDEA, FINALLY WITH MEMORY

Florence told people to watch their words. She could not build something that remembered them with you.

Florence Scovel Shinn wrote about watching repeated words, expectations, fear, resistance, forgiveness, and guidance. The challenge was never reading the idea once. It was hearing yourself consistently enough to use it at the exact moment an old sentence returned.

THE ORIGINAL DISCIPLINE

Watch what you repeatedly say and expect.

The books ask the reader to become her own watchman: notice the sentence, notice the expectation, notice when fear has become prophecy, and deliberately choose another Word. The gain is awareness before habit becomes action.

THE HUMAN LIMIT

Yesterday's sentence is easy to forget.

Yesterday's sentence is easy to forget. The same fear can return under different wording. A useful Correction can disappear. A prediction can be forgotten after reality proves it wrong. Without continuity, a person can keep relearning the same lesson as if it were new.

WHAT CHANGES NOW

The Mirror can remember the evidence with you.

Your Mirror can remember with you. WORD & WILL begins with Shinn as a set of lenses, while your judgment remains final. The Mirror can notice, remember, and ask. You can disagree, edit, delete, or choose another interpretation.

A Mirror moment

My Will: I want to build the consulting business I keep talking about.

My Word: Realistically, I will probably spend six months on this and get nowhere.

The Mirror: You are practicing the ending before you have run the experiment.

A Correction: I do not know the ending. I can make the next grounded move and collect evidence.

Meet your Mirror
